On October 16th, Independent Federal Credit Union (IFCU) will join more than 74,000 credit unions from 104 countries to celebrate the 77th anniversary of International Credit Union Day® (ICU Day). ICU Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948 and is designed to create awareness and celebrate all the ways credit unions improve the lives of their members. The global credit union movement celebrates under the theme, “Cooperation for a Prosperous World”. With the United Nations declaring 2025 the International Year of Cooperatives under the theme “Building a Better World Together”, the ICU Day 2025 theme purposefully mirrors that to signify all the ways credit unions help people across the globe achieve more prosperity and well-being through cooperative finance.
Credit unions strive to make the world a better place for their members by offering affordable rates and high-quality service that simplify their lives and empower them to meet their financial goals. IFCU also works to allow members to 'Be Independent and Be Happy' by participating in Credit Union Co-ops such as Shared Branching and Alliance One. Shared Branching allows members to conduct their IFCU business at any participating Credit Union Branch, no matter where they are. Alliance One is a nationwide cooperative of Credit Unions and community banks that have joined forces to let cardholders access each other’s ATMs - nearly 5,000 ATM locations - without paying ATM surcharge fees.
