Stay Alert: Protect Yourself from Scams
In today’s digital age, scams are more prevalent than ever, targeting people through emails, phone calls, text messages, and social media. Being aware of common scam tactics is the first line of defense in protecting your personal and financial information.
Scammers often impersonate trusted organizations, such as banks or government agencies, to trick you into sharing sensitive data or sending money. They may create a sense of urgency, claiming your account is at risk or that you’ve won a prize that requires immediate action. They may even utilize branding, such as logos and taglines, to trick you into thinking you are dealing with a familiar source or business.
If you are suspicious, please don't hesitate to contact the business that the communication is representing. Always better to be safe than sorry! Remember, legitimate businesses will never pressure you to make quick decisions or demand payment via gift cards or wire transfers. If something feels off, trust your instincts and double-check before responding.
Recent attempts to impersonate Independent Federal Credit Union have been made utilizing our branding colors and logos. We understand this can cause stress and worry. We will promptly verify the message and let you know if it is a scam.
Independent will never ask you for personal or financial information over the phone, in a text, or in an e-mail. Please be aware of phishing scams that may impersonate Independent Federal Credit Union and attempt to obtain your personal information.
To avoid falling victim, always verify the identity of anyone who contacts you unexpectedly. Never click on suspicious links or download attachments from unknown sources. Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication whenever possible.
Staying informed and vigilant is the key to keeping yourself—and your information—safe from scams.
