Building a Stronger Community

Wow! What a year!

Because of the generosity of our members as well as that of our staff; Independent participated in several community events and hosted several charity drives making 2019 successful in building up our community and helping those in need.

In July, Independent Federal Credit Union was awarded the Proudly We Hail Award by the Anderson Noon Exchange Club for flying our American Flag with pride in honor for those who serve and are serving, as well as a reminder of our community pride. Throughout the Summer we participated in several golf events, sponsoring holes, and hole-in-one contests helping to raise monies for local chambers and various charities.

A big shout out to our members and employees who helped make our first Back-To-School Backpack drive a success. Our Back-to-School Backpack Drive gathered donations of school supplies and $368 in cash from our staff and generous members. We were able to stuff 10 backpacks and fill 10 lunch boxes with necessities to get kids back-to-school and ready for learning. All items were delivered to The Exchange Club Family Resource Center for distribution to the students most in need.

In the fall, we hosted Cars for a Cause to benefit United Faith Housing, a local Madison County non-profit organization, offering housing and critical services to those who would otherwise be homeless. We had over 65 entries and raised over $1700. The event was well attended by the community, and the weather was great; setting the stage for a great day, and a great event.

In addition to our fundraising efforts, throughout the year, we also participated in several community outreach events to help build stronger relationships with local businesses, members, and the community. Our Annual Christmas Charity was also a success! Thanks to the generosity of our staff and members with candy sale efforts throughout the year; we were able to provide a nice Christmas to families who were desperately in need. The community rallied together, and between the help from our members and staff, Anderson Schools, and American Mattress, we were able to donate beds and laundry baskets full of necessity items to group home residents at LifeStream Services. Finally, we collected several bath/body sets for the teenage boys and girls at The Children’s Bureau Family Resource Center. These items were placed in their 'Santa Shop' so parents could shop for their children, who otherwise would have gone without. Our members are so generous!

Thank you to all our great members for their participation and generosity in helping us to work together to build a stronger community. That is what we call People helping People!
